The treatment with cyclophosphamide and chemotherapy comprises several cycles that stretch over a few months. The treatment plan, the number of cycles, the length and the dose are individual; they depend on cancer type and appointed by your doctor.
In the course of cancer treatment Cyclophosphamide can be taken:
• Orally as tablets
• As an injection through a cannula inserted either in the back of the hand, vein near the collarbone, vein in the crook of your arm
• By drip (intravenous infusion)
If you take cyclophosphamide as pills:
• Take cyclophosphamide exactly as directed by your doctor. The dosage may be adjusted in the course of treatment depending on your white blood cell count as you undergo blood tests.
• Take cyclophosphamide tablets at the right times.
• If you vomit soon after taking the pill tell your doctor immediately because you may need to take another tablet. Don’t take another dose without your doctor’s instruction.
• If you forget to take the scheduled dose, do not take a double dose. Inform your doctor and continue the treatment according to your regular schedule.
How to store cyclophosphamide tablets:
• Keep the tablets in the original packaging at room temperature.
• Keep the tablets in a safe place where children or pets cannot access them; taking cyclophosphamide can be dangerous for them.
• Do not throw away the tablets or wash them down the sink or toilet if your doctor decides to stop the treatment. Return the remaining medicine to the pharmacist.
If you take cyclophosphamide to treat other diseases or condotions (vasculitis, myopathies, rheumatoid arthritis) or prevent prevent rejection of transplant tissues, ask your doctor for instruction.
